About LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY The LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY 2007 will be specifically devoted to the large-scale orchestral repertoire. Some 140 young musicians from all corners of the world will be invited to spend three weeks in Lucerne to study and perform pioneering works of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries with Pierre Boulez, his assistant Jean Deroyer, and members of the Ensemble Intercontemporain.
Works by György Ligeti and György Kurtág, Bartók’s great orchestral piece "The Miraculous Mandarin", and "Seven", a new violin concerto by Peter Eötvös, will be performed during an all-Hungarian program under the aegis of Artistic Director Pierre Boulez.
The second orchestral project will focus on Karlheinz Stockhausen’s "Gruppen", a work for three orchestral groups and three conductors, together with a master class for young conductors headed by Peter Eötvös. The work will be given two hearings in the subsequent concert: one conducted by three candidates from the master class in the first half, and a repeat performance under the batons of Jean Deroyer, Pierre Boulez, and Peter Eötvös.
The ensemble program will feature rehearsals and a performance of Pierre Boulez’s Le Marteau sans maître and Sur Incises under the direction of Pierre Boulez and the young French conductor Jean Deroyer.
The LUCERNE FESTIVAL PERCUSSION GROUP, now entering its third season, will again offer premières of several new pieces for twelve-man percussion ensemble.
